Okay, so now all I have to do is hope for SATA 3 SSD connections and the prices to drop to i5 @ $1699 and i7 @ $1999. Some REAL good GPUs and more standard ram. :cool:
I hate to say it but I'll keep holding off if the interface connections don't start jumping up in spec. It's retarded to see Thunderbolt and no SATA 3 or USB 3. It will a (re)selling point later on when you're looking to sell it off for the next new one.

Exactly. Which is why the Ghz myth will stay for a long time. You can't market Memory or FSB or SATA or PCI-X/PCI-E, you won't get anywhere.
Ghz, GB, "X times faster", and you can play games that look very pretty. Those who don't want the superdrive have the option of an air. People in the music industry will always have a use for CD's. I just think no superdrive makes it an air varient not a pro.The optical drive doesn't make it "Pro" it makes it "outdated" and "unnecessary." If you need an optical drive by an external one, there is no need to hold up the majority that never use them.

If Apple DOES introduce C2D MacBook Pros at this, it will have to totally redesign the case to make it "invite event" worthy.
If all that's being changed is the processor, or minor cae changes (like the addition of FW800 across the line), it will simply be done in silent, overnight fashion as was the case with the iMac update.
That being said, I don't see such a radical case design this soon. That seems more like something where they'd like to focus on the computer itself, which wouldn't happen as part of a photo show.

We all called those things "windows operating systems" or "windows-based operating systems" (and "graphical operating systems") in the IT industry back in the day when Microsoft got the trademark.
Again that doesn't matter as the word Windows doesn't come from the IT industry but existed before. App however was created within the IT industry.

i've been patiently waiting for the MBP to be updated before i ordered but wanted to jump on the iPod deal as well which ends the 16th

The biggest reason that we have been Virus and attack free in general is because we have been such an exclusive club for so long. We have never been mainstream. We were always elitist and as such not a very lucrative target for hackers and virus creators.
Now that the Apple Club is becoming more and more mainstream and more of a middle class status symbol (and less of an upper class one), and therefore with a wider and larger user base, we will be more of a target for hackers.
I mean really when 92% of the world runs on Windows, and mere 5% runs on OSX, who would you target? But as that percentage begins to increase, and the typical Mac user has more money that the typical Windows user, the value associated with target us is becoming more and more lucrative.
Anyway, just my 2.

I think they are going to hold this for quite a while since they just released their new ipods. Since consumers are rushing to get the new ipods now.. holding it back a few months will make these ipod-owners think about buying iphones to replace their new ipods. So instead of releasing iphone now and let the consumers choose one of them.. they will want them to buy both..
I think it's the same reason why they aren't releasing merom versions of MB/MBP before school starts, because this is the time when everybody is rushing to get new laptops. Sale will probably fall quite a bit after that... so when everyone has a yonah MB/MBP... they then releases merom MB/MBP to stimulate sales again during school period.. tempting yonah owners to replace their laptops...

as a proud owner of a SLVR L7, which i love to DEATH (greatest phone ever), i probably won't be buying one in 2007. maybe 2008? depends on what service it's on. if it's on cingular like the L7, then i'll get one without thinking twice.

Buffer times and connection loss could be eliminated as problems very easily:
When you load a playlist, your iPhone begins to download all the songs immediately in the background. Since a song is only a few megabytes, several songs could be downloaded in the span of one song during playback. These songs are then cached in a pre-determined sized local library and kept there until needed to make room for new incoming songs. A smart system could be employed to determine songs that should be prioritized to be kept in cache based on playcount and other listening patterns.
In an iPhone with 32GB of flash, a few GB of music could be cached without taking much room yet storing massive amounts of songs without the risk of interruption from slow or loss of connection.

And responsiveness issue. yes you can already use an iPhone while downloading / updating apps but it's gonna be slower. CoreAnimation will be choppy. And battery will suffer, too.
Whereas locally stored MP3 playing won't harm your iPhone at all and lets you multi-task like a charm and enjoy what makes the iPhone the iPhone : instant responsiveness.
I see iTunes library sharing over wifi working already very badly, it's most of the time unusable at home for audio. Forget about video... So just also forget about streaming from the internet using 3G. Moreover, about 50% of the time, my iPhone gets only Edge and no 3G (Bouygues Telecom, France).
And maybe the biggest issue : I listen to my music while commuting. And basically, there's barely a voice-enabled network 60% of the time. Nothing 30% of the time and Edge 10%. Nothing else (I commute with the tube in Paris). So any cloud-enabled music is DOA for me. I already have Mobile Me and Dropbox for that. Doesn't work practically for me.
So I don't call this cloud thing a revolution, rather a gmmick at best, and ******** for my actual needs.
But maybe, in some better-covered areas, with lucky people with a 100% 3G signal enabled all the time, that'll work...

I can just imagine that future Apple operating systems might very well include native protection that wold continue to thwart people wanting to sell anti-malware for Apple OS.

Looks like the iPods are still at 5G with some tweaks, which is weird considering they had a whole year. .
That is the common sense reaction. You're seeing mac zealots here trying to trumpet how great these new iPods are.
Updating a 4:3 screen with another 4:3 screen and claiming it's improved is like Yugo rereleasing their car and claiming it's improved because the gas cap is a different color. It's still a Yugo.

Can't wait to see what they come out with. Will the displays ramp up resolution and diminish in size? Will there be a scaled down iMac? (doubtful) Will some other advances accompany Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt?
